An AAAA record is an IP in the newly released IPv6 format and it is made up of 8 groups of hexadecimal digits, as opposed to the IPv4 IPs, which feature four groups of digits in between 1 and 255. An illustration of an IPv6 address is 3014:0d43:23a3:2354:1320:8f3b:2635:3254 and in this format the sheer number of IPs that could be created is many times larger than the number of the IPv4 addresses. Every domain has its web hosting server IP as a record and in essence, that record tells the domain address where the website for it is. Depending on the system which the provider employs, the record is going to be called A (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6). Changing this record enables you to host your website with one provider and your email messages with a different one, so if you choose to use this sort of redirection to forward a domain to a server that uses an IPv6 address, you'll need to create an AAAA record for it.

AAAA Records in Cloud Hosting

If you use a service through a third-party company and you've got to set up an AAAA record to forward a domain or a subdomain to their system, you'll be able to do that with only a few clicks through the Hepsia Control Panel, provided with all of our cloud hosting packages. After you log in, you have to navigate to the DNS Records section where you will find all the records for any domain or subdomain hosted within the account. Creating a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, choosing the type from a drop-down menu, which will be AAAA in this case, and then entering the value, or the actual IPv6 address, inside a text box. As an added option you could change the TTL value (Time To Live), that outlines how long the record is live after you modify it or erase it in the future. The new AAAA record will be working in just an hour and will propagate globally two or three hours later, so the hostname for which you have created it will start directing to the new hosting server.
